Also available in 1/48 as ED48-132, the decals are printed by Fantasy Printshop in Cornwall, UK and depict ‘Huns’ from the colourful period of their USAF career in the late 1950s in the USA. This is a part of a series of Euro Decals covering these colourful aircraft.

Decals are beautifully printed in high gloss with minimal carrier film with great colour density and excellent register. The individual markings are on one sheet while an extra sheet contains insignia and data stencils for one or two of the four choices, and I assume the others can be furnished using kit decals. There are only one set of full markings but two sets of ‘U.S. AIR FORCE’ markings, a bit odd I think.

Instructions are in full colour with each choice being given a full A4 page with annotated four view coverage. Black numbers refer to the larger sheet while all if the common decals are indicated in red - a useful way of avoiding some confusion. Paint colours, and they are all in natural metal finishes are called out by name and numbers from the Humbrol, Xtracolour, Xtracrylix and LIfecolor ranges.

The four choices are :-

  1. 56-3151 of 481st Tactical Fighter Sqn, 27th Tactical Fighter Wing at Cannon AFB, New Mexico, in 1959 with a green tail and nose decoration,

  2. 56-3056 of 524th Tactical Fighter Sqn, 27th Tactical Fighter Wing at Cannon AFB, New Mexico, in 1959 with a yellow tail decoration and large squadron badge,

  3. 56-2862 of 454th Fighter Bomber Sqn, 323rd Fighter BomberWing at Bunker Hill AFB, Indiana, in 1957 with blue and black chequered tail and nose decoration, and

  4. 55-2933 of 1st Fighter Day Sqn, 413th Fighter Day Wing at George AFB, CAlifornia, in 1959 with a red and white striped tail and nose decoration.

This is a very colourful set of markings and I commend them to any of you whose scale and interests these match.

Conclusion

This is an excellent and very colourful set of markings for the Supersabre from the late 1950s. Highly recommended.
