Tamiya's 1/48 scale
F4U-1D Corsair

by Richard Nicoletti

Chance-Vought F4U-1A Corsair

Description

This model depicts a Vought F4U-1D Corsair of CVG-84, Task Force 58, aboard the USS Bunker Hill between USN fighter sweeps of the Japanese Home Islands in February 1945.

I enhanced Tamiya's 61085 F4U-1D Corsair kit's cockpit with an Eduard FE215 PE Set, and masked the canopy with EZ Masks #101 set. Since I have had troubles with Tamiya decals in the past, I opted to use a AeroMaster 48070 Corsairs & Hellcats II decal set for the model's markings.

Finishing was accomplished using Tamiya acrylic paints.

As usual with Tamiya kits, assembly went well. However, I found the parts required for the folded wings to be quite delicate, and I broke one of the "L" shaped pieces that connect the wing segments. Luckily for me, I was able to obtain a replacement from a fellow modeler.
