This title, published in 2010, it is a welcome volume on this important late-war USAF bomber. Modellers will be familiar with the presentation of this series, and this volume consists of 96 semi-gloss pages case-bound in a stiffer glossy card cover with an illustration of 41-39274 “Sugar Baby” from 668th BS on it.

here are now 144 editions in this Osprey series, which started with the Ju 87 in 1997!

The book follows the established pattern of descriptive chapters illustrated with well-chosen pictures with good captions, with a central section of colour profiles of significant airframes. In this case there are 30 side views of both solid nose and clear nose variants, along with 13 nose-art only drawings. There are also five contemporary colour images from around St. Trond in 1945.

The contents are:-

  • Chapter 1 - Preparing the Invader

  • Chapter 2 - Combat Evaluation

  • Chapter 3 - Into Action

  • Chapter 4 - Invaders to the Fore

  • Chapter 5 - More Units Convert

  • Chapter 6 Pacific invaders

  • Appendices

  • Colour Plates Commentary

  • Index.

The Colour Plates Commentary is particularly useful with its description of each aircraft covered by the colour profile.

These books are a useful addition to both the war historian and modeller’s bookshelves and this one is recommended to those who may have missed it the first time around.

Conclusion

This will be a useful addition to the modelling library of those of you interested in the USAF.
