Introduction

Developed in 1937, the Grumman Wildcat was a street fighter by any measure, able to take massive amounts of punishment, and it was an Ace maker for many.

The little fighter has always had an appeal to me mainly due to it heroic actions in the early stages of World War Two over Guadalcanal in the early stages of the Pacific War. The other thing that I liked about it was it became so dirty and weathered and that is always appealing from a modelling standpoint.

FirstLook

Arma's new 1/72 scale F4F-4 Wildcat is presented on three sprues of which two are in medium grey and one is in clear.

A total of 73 very well molded part are included.

The surface textures comprise very fine recessed panel lines. Given the scale this is entirely appropriate.

The clear parts are highlights as they are very clear and remarkably thin.

A six-page colour illustrated instruction booklet is included that offers clear and concise building steps.

Marking Options

The kit is rounded out by a very well printed decal sheet by Techmod.

This offers two early-war schemes of Blue Gray over Light Gull Grey.

Conclusion

This kit exudes class in every way from the crisp panel lines to the thin cockpit stills to the multi piece engine and cockpit details.

You can see a lot of thought has gone into this kit and it is equal to and indeed surpasses in some cases many of the bigger names in the hobby.

I’m a tank guy but I can see myself building this as an easy reintroduction to small scale aircraft modelling. Yeah, it’s that good!

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to Arma Hobby for the sample
