This is my Tamiya1/48 scale P-38 Lightning.

Apart from the aerials, the kit was made straight out of the box.

The kit has been so well engineered, the fit of the parts are excellent throughout. With that in mind, I decided to assemble the kit in sub assemblies, including the booms. These were painted separately before adding them to the fuselage. This saved a lot of masking and as a result, made the fuselage much easier to paint before final assembly.

The fuselage joint was also such a good fit, It was possible to glue it from the inside using Tamiya liquid cement with a small bent paintbrush to run the glue along the joint internally. The result was a very neat seam with minimal cleaning up required.

The model was painted entirely with Ammo Mig Acrylics including metallics.

I used the kit decals, including the decals to represent the holes in the cooling jackets on the machine guns. All the decals went on extremely well. I purchased this kit from KB Models in Havant.

Unfortunately, the owner, Kim has now passed, and the shop is permanently closed.

Anyone who visited the KB Models knows what a first class model shop it was. Kim will be sadly missed by his many customers.
