Tamiya's 1/48 scale
Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6
by Andrew Horton

Shown here is a 1/48 Tamiya Bf 109 G-6 (Kit No. 61117) built for Flight Line Media.

This is my second completed Tamiya Bf 109 G-6. It’s a very easy kit, but I don’t love how Tamiya makes interchangeable parts to display the completed model with opened or closed cowling.

For my first one, I built it with the cowling closed, out of the box. For this one, I wanted to open everything up, but wasn’t satisfied with the kit’s parts, so I got a myriad of resin replacements and spent several months on this Messerschmitt.

I opened up the cowling, gun pods, canopy and radio compartment on this model that represents an Erla-built Bf 109 G-6/R6. No major problems were encountered.

Bf 109s were built out of numerous factories such as Regensburg, W.N.F. and Erla. I particularly liked the scheme and uniqueness the Erla 109 sported.

This is my first build with Tru-Color Paint. I like how fast it dries, but will be using MRP in the future.
