Kotare's 1/32 scale
Spitfire Mk.Vb (Early)

by Brett Green

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb (Early)
Flight Lieutenant Brendan “Paddy” Finucane
452 Squadron RAAF
RAF Kenley , October 1941

Description

Here is my newly completed Kotare 1:32 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb. At last we have a large scale model worthy of this important type.

My example was built as a Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory–produced Mk.Vb. There were a number of subtle but significant differences between Supermarine and CBAF-manufactured aircraft. Kotare addresses these variations thoroughly.

The model was built straight from the box with the exception of the decals. These are from Fundekals and represent Flight Lieutenant Brendan “Paddy” Finucane’s Mk.Vb as flown in October 1941, during his attachment to No. 452 Squadron RAAF at RAF Kenley.

Camouflage colours are Tamiya aerosol paint AS-30 Dark Green 2, AS-31 Ocean Grey 2 and AS-32 Medium Sea Grey 2, decanted from their spray cans into jars and applied by airbrush.

Oh, and I did use the 3d printed entry door and exhaust stacks that came with pre-ordered kits.

This is the first Kotare Spitfire that I have built, and I am deeply impressed. The company’s philosophy of a sensible parts count and clever design combined with uncompromising detail and accuracy has delivered an instant classic.

Roll on Kotare!
