First Look.

Advantages:

Fantastic detail; clean casting; straightforward assembly; includes open upper and lower cowls.

Disdvantages:

None noted.

Conclusions:

Eduard’s BRASSIN Bf 109 K-4 Engine is an impressive little package that delivers exceptional detail in 1/72 scale.

Although assembly and painting will demand care, the results should be well worth the effort, particularly with the engine and gun bays displayed beneath the beautifully detailed removable cowlings.

This is an excellent upgrade for Eduard’s K-4, adding a new dimension of detail to an already fine kit..

FirstLook

Eduard has released an ambitious full engine and fuselage gun set for their own 1/72 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4.

This offers full side, top and lower engine detail, a complete cowl gun bay, upper and lower engine and gun cowls.

Eduard's BRASSIN 1/72 scale Bf 109 K-4 Engine comprises 26 parts in grey resin, one brass plated photo-etched fret with a furthur ten parts and illustrated instructions.

The engine block is cast in a single piece with impressive detail.

Detail is cast onto the bottom of the engine too.

The cowlings feature gorgeous detail inside and out. The lower engine cowling is equally impressive.

The unique K-4 engine bearers are separate parts. The cowl guns and their mounts are cast as a single part each.

The front of the engine firewall and the base for the cowl guns are cast with an intricate network of wiring. These should look fantastic with some careful painting and weathering. The supercharger is equally well detailed.

The exhaust stubs are separate parts and are hollowed out at the ends.

Remaining resin parts include the splined propeller shaft and horseshoe oil tank, upper gun cowl and other details.

The photo-etched fret offers scale-thickness small detail parts.

The package is rounded out with helpfully illustrated instructions.
