Advantages:

The book contains numerous previously unpublished photographs showing aircraft of the Century Series in multiple schemes; many of the pictures have not been previously published.  .
Disadvantages: None noted.
Conclusion:

This is very a nice addition to the WARchive Series. As with the previous volume on the Douglas A-4, quality pictures of multiple schemes are provided along with great detail pics for the modeler. Highly Recommended.

Introduction

 

I'm fascinated by the Century Series of aircraft and old enough to remember seeing two of the series, the F-104 and F-105, flying at air shows in the early 1970's. That said, I really like this new addition to the WARchive series, The Century Series. The author, Chris Banyai-Riepl, is no stranger to producing quality texts on aviation subjects having previously published books on the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and  North American F-86D/L Sabre Dog.

Chris is also good modeler with an eye for shots of aircraft wearing lesser-known schemes. The pictures provided in this book, are based on an extensive collection of aviation images taken by his father, the well-known aviation photographer, Will A. Riepl, hence the "WAR" in WARchives. Another nice publication, Chris!

As with all the WARchives books, this one is filled with never-before-seen pics of the Century Series aircraft in various liveries. In addition, the book includes occasional detail shots that are perfect for the modeler.

 

 

The aircraft covered include:

  • North American F-100 Super Sabre

  • McDonnell F-101 Voodoo

  • Convair F-102 Delta Dagger

  • Lockheed F-104 Starfighter

  • Republic F-105 Thunderchief

  • Convair F-106 Delta Dart

 

 

Conclusion

 

This is a nice addition to the WARchive Series. Multiple, lesser-known schemes worn by aircraft of the Century Series are covered. Now, this book doesn't provide the level detail found in books that focus on providing pictures of landing gear, hydraulic lines, etc, etc.. But, for those planning on building a Century Series fighter, this book provides painting inspiration.

Highly Recommended for Century Series fans everywhere!
