Happy Thanksgiving

Dear Friends,

As Thanksgiving approaches, it seems for the past several years that every time I turn on the radio or television, or check my email, I am bombarded with "Black Friday" this, “Black Friday” that, “CyberMonday” or "we're open on Thanksgiving." In fact, someone saying "we're open on Thanksgiving" (or promoting a ball game) is about the only time I see the word "Thanksgiving" being used.

Somehow, the joy and Thanksgiving that SHOULD be celebrated on this day has gotten lost in the need to "cash in" - with retailers willing to work their employees on what should be a holiday, and shoppers willing to give up their time with family in hopes of saving a few bucks.

It is disappointing that it seems that the real meaning of Thanksgiving has gotten lost.  Denise and I are thankful to the Lord for a number of reasons - among them, my mom continues to recover from her accident and our sons are healthy, as are our grandsons. We were blessed with wonderful parents, extended family, great friends and we have a fantastic marriage. We have a modest, but warm home - and through the support of people like you, we don't lack for something to eat.

Our Thanksgiving holiday will be spent going to church and enjoying a (too big) meal with family. But we won't be checking email or packing orders on Thursday.  Our website will be up and running over the holiday, and we are having a sale, but the sale won’t be our main focus this holiday – and we hope it isn’t yours either.

We don't want folks to focus on "Black Friday" - but we are having a Thanksgiving Sale -  actually a series of them. But, before we get into that, we are pleased to say that my new Legends of Warfare book about USS Yorktown, CV-10 has arrived and is in stock!

The door buster deals will change daily, at in some cases a discount code IS required - which will be provided to you in the popup when you first visit our page.

We won’t be doing much shipping until Monday December 1 when it will be business as usual. This will us allow us to combine any multiple orders you place to take advantage of the daily deals, and save you some shipping cost.

Speaking of shipping – please be aware that we are already seeing the seasonal delays in shipping, both inbound and outbound, with multi-parcel shipments getting separated in transit. We have one shipment, the first parts of which arrived last Wednesday, with more arriving daily since - and still not all are here!  Fortunately, this has delayed only a FEW of your orders, but it sure creates a lot of work here!  In transit to us are a number of other large shipments, all of which should be arriving in the next couple of weeks – so check our website often.

Further words about shipping:

Since we are running multiple sales, I am sure that there are some questions, especially as related to our policy of free domestic shipping on orders over $75 of in-stock merchandise.

We will combine orders placed over the Thanksgiving holiday.  As mentioned, we'll be working with a reduced shipping schedule, which will allow orders to accumulate.  Prior to shipping, we'll combine orders, and if a refund of shipping charges is needed, we will do so.

Our policy of free domestic shipping on orders over $75 requires that we actually get $75 from you.  A $71 order with $4 shipping (our standard shipping charge) is not a $75 order. Ordering a $30 book that is in stock and reserving a further $50 worth of books arriving in the future is not a $75 order for shipping purposes. Similarly, an order of $100 in Squadron-Signal books that are subsequently reduced to $60 because of our Thanksgiving sale does not qualify for free shipping.

Our standard shipping time is 1 to 3 working days.  At heavy demand times, it can go slightly longer (such as when multiple new books arrive at once).  Our premium service $4.95 plus $1 per book) normally ships the same day the order was placed or the next business day. One of the things Denise and I are thankful about this year as we now have some help with the packing and shipping, which will allow us to maintain our service standard without collapsing from exhaustion.

We normally ship via USPS, but sometimes ship UPS or FedEx when those are better options,
